You order the same thing. Sometimes they order more. You avoid snacking, you drink water, you do everything they say they do. They are not trying harder than you and after enough years of watching it you have quietly decided the difference must be you.
It is not one difference. It is probably a stack of them, and none of them are your fault, lack of willpower or effort.
Fullness does not arrive at the same volume in everybody. Some people get a clear, firm "done" partway through the plate. Others get a vague mumble that is easy to miss, and the plate is empty before it registers. Same meal, different signal, and only one of you has to work at ignoring it.
The same carbohydrates do not do the same thing. For one person a plate of pasta is steady fuel. For another it is a bigger rise and a harder landing, which comes back as hunger sooner than it should. Neither of you chose that.
And two people sitting still do not burn the same. Some bodies run a lively inner furnace and give off spare calories as heat. Others store what is left over. Your body also has a weight it has decided on and steers back toward, which is why the last three diets ended where they did.
So the useful question is not what they eat. It is which of these is yours:
- How loudly your appetite asks, and how clearly it says stop
- What carbohydrates do to you
- What fat does to you
- How much you burn sitting still
- The weight your body keeps steering back to
- And potentially others
